Kuwait City, Kuwait, July 21, 2026: The Olympic Council of Asia has announced the procedure for the OCA Athletes Committee elections to be conducted during the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
In a circular to the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees, OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam outlines the process and timeline.
“We are pleased to announce that the OCA will conduct an election for four positions on the OCA Athletes Committee during the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, 2026,” writes Captain Husain.
These positions will specifically represent Asian athletes from the following four zones:
1 - West Asia (one female athlete)
2 - Central Asia (one male athlete)
3 - East Asia (one male athlete)
4 - Southeast Asia (one female athlete)
“Please note that no nomination is being sought for the South Asia Zone. In accordance with the transitional arrangements approved by the OCA Executive Board, the South Asia Zone already has an approved athlete representative from the NOC of India,” he adds.
“Accordingly, nominations are invited only for the four zonal positions listed above.”
The OCA seeks the assistance of the NOCs in informing their athletes who will be competing in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games about the importance of the election.
“It is crucial to have strong representation from your respective zones on our committee to ensure their unique perspectives and needs are addressed,” Captain Husain said.
“To promote gender equity and balanced representation within the OCA Athletes Committee, NOCs from the four zones listed above are requested to submit the nominations only for the gender specified for their respective zone.”
Athletes from NOCs who participated in either of the previous two Asian (Summer) Games - Jakarta-Palembang 2018 and Hangzhou 2022 - are also eligible to stand for these positions, provided they have competed in a Summer Olympic sport discipline.
To ensure wider representation across the OCA membership, NOCs that already have a representative serving on the OCA Athletes Committee at the time of the election shall not be eligible to nominate a candidate.
Accordingly, the following five NOCs are not eligible to submit nominations:
1 - NOC of Saudi Arabia
2 - NOC of India
3 - NOC of China
4 - NOC of Hong Kong, China
5 - NOC of Singapore
Eligible NOCs are therefore invited to submit nominations for the respective position allocated to their zone by Friday, August 21, 2026.
