OCA-UWW youth camp closes in Guangzhou

Guangzhou, China, July 15, 2026: The 2026 OCA-UWW Asian Wrestling Youth Camp and Course for Coaches came to a joyous conclusion at the Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports on Wednesday afternoon.

 

The 62 athletes and 30 coaches from 30 National Olympic Committees from across Asia received their certificates of participation and souvenir gifts from representatives of the OCA, United World Wrestling and from the distinguished sports college.

 

The 62 athletes from the NOCs have been supplemented by 40 student wrestling athletes from the Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports to create a packed and noisy gymnasium on the six-ring competition floor on each day of the camp, which opened on July 8.

 

“This has been a wonderful camp and I would like to thank everyone who has made it possible,” said OCA Director Wissam Trkmani at the closing ceremony.

 

In particular he thanked the Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports for their excellent support of the development project and for offering a great environment with their student accommodation and canteen, internal transportation and use of the spacious the sports centre.

 

“The UWW Educators have really inspired the young athletes, and the volunteers have been amazing. You worked very hard to make this camp happen.”

 

He told the athletes, aged from 14 to 17, that this camp was only the beginning of their career in wrestling and that they should continue to work hard and achieve their dreams. He also thanked the coaches for encouraging the athletes and for sharing their knowledge.

 

On behalf of United World Wrestling, Bureau member and Olympic silver medallist Arsen Julfalakyan from Armenia described it as an “amazing” camp and urged the coaches to transfer this knowledge to the wrestling community on their return home.

 

Two local sports officials, Luo Yufei and Fu Dangyu, attended the closing ceremony and helped to present the certificates and souvenirs.
