New Delhi, India, July 12, 2026: Salima Tete has been named captain of the 20-member Indian women’s hockey team for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games from September 19 to October 4.
Hockey India named the squad for the continental showpiece on Friday, July 10, retaining Salima as the captain after she guided the team to the FIH Nations Cup title last month.
The women’s hockey tournament at the 20th Asian Games in Japan will take place at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara.
It will also double up as an Asian qualifier for the LA28 Olympics, with the winner securing a berth in Los Angeles.
“This group of players has shown that they have the right form and fitness in recent months. We are confident that this team is ready for the challenge at the Asian Games,” head coach Sjoerd Marijne said.
India won the bronze medal in women’s hockey at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
