Asian Games fencing champ Uyama visits schools to promote Aichi-Nagoya 2026

Nagoya, Japan, July 8, 2026: Asian Games fencing champion Satoru Uyama continued his mission to promote Aichi-Nagoya 2026 to students in Japan.

Uyama, who was a member of Japan’s gold medal-winning men’s epee team at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games in 2018, visited one elementary school and two junior high schools over two days. He engaged with approximately 660 students.

Uyama, an official supporter of the 20th Asian Games, shared his love of fencing with the students.

“He introduced the charm of fencing and the highlights of the competition, and demonstrated the speed of the athletes and the fun of the sport,” Asian Games organising committee AINAGOC posted on social media.

“Moreover, Mr. Uyama sent a message about the importance of cheering the efforts and attitude of the fencers, whether they win or lose.

“Through competitive experiences and demonstrations, the children learned about fencing and the importance of cheering on their peers and supporting others who challenge themselves.”

AINAGOC said they would continue to expand the joy of sport and the importance of supporting the athletes in the build-up to the Asian Games, which will run from September 19 to October 4 with over 10,000 athletes and 5,000 team officials from the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees.
