New Delhi, India, July 8, 2026: The President of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee, Wali Rahimi, has paid tribute to the former national team cricketer Shapoor Zadran, who died on July 7 after a long illness. He was 38.
“With great regret and sorrow, the news of the death of the late Shapoor Zadran, the former star of the Afghan national cricket team, has deeply influenced the sports community of the country,” Rahimi wrote in a social media post.
“The Afghan National Olympic Committee expresses its sincere condolences to the respected family of the deceased, the Afghan cricket community, teammates, friends and all the honorable people of Afghanistan for the death of this committed and honorable athlete.
“With years of hard work, commitment and sincere service to cricket, the late Shapoor Zadran made his name in the history of Afghan sports - and the precious memories of his achievements will always be remembered.”
Zadran, a left-arm fast-medium bowler, died in a hospital in New Delhi.
