Guangzhou, China, July 8, 2026: OCA Director Wissam Trkmani believes the Asian wrestling youth camp and coaches’ course is about much more than the sport.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the OCA/United World Wrestling camp at Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports Auditorium on Wednesday, July 8, Mr. Trkmani said the camp embraced all the Olympic values.
He told the young athletes: “You represent the very best of Asia's wrestling future. Over the coming days you will train alongside peers from across the continent, learn from world-class coaches and forge friendships that cross borders and cultures.
“Wrestling is not merely a sport of strength and technique; it is a discipline that builds character, resilience and mutual respect. These are values that the Olympic Council of Asia holds dear.”
The camp will run until Wednesday, July 15 and will see Asia’s young wrestlers and their coaches learn their trade from an experienced group of international mentors.
Addressing the coaches, Mr. Trkmani said: “You are the ones who have travelled with your athletes, supported them to be better individuals. As we bring together young talents from across Asia, your presence ensures that they feel secure, focused and empowered to give their best.
“This camp is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together across nations and federations. It embodies the Olympic spirit of excellence, friendship and respect. We hope you will carry these lessons with you — not just on to the mat but throughout your lives.
“Train hard, learn from one another and enjoy every moment of this remarkable experience.”
The OCA’s Director of National Olympic Committee Relations and Development Programmes thanked United World Wrestling and the Chinese Olympic Committee for their support in putting together the camp.
“I also wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports and Guangzhou Sports Competition Center for their exceptional hospitality and perfect organization,” he added.
