Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, July 7, 2026: The Olympic Council of Malaysia reports that Dato’ Roy Rajasingham Ratnasingam passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6. He was 87.
Dato’ Roy was a passionate sportsman with a lifelong love for hockey.
Despite his demanding legal career, he remained deeply committed to the development of hockey in Malaysia. He devoted almost two decades to the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association, serving first as Vice President and later as Deputy President from 1983 to 2002.
At the national level, he served as Vice President of the Malaysian Hockey Federation from 1995 to 2004.
In recognition of his outstanding service to hockey, Dato’ Roy was conferred the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP), which carries the title of Dato', during the official 78th birthday celebration of His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, Sultan of Perak, on April 19, 2006.
Dato’ Roy also made significant contributions to the Olympic Movement in Malaysia. He was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of OCM for four consecutive terms, serving from 2005 to 2013.
During his tenure with the OCM, he chaired both the OCM Legal Advisory Committee and the OCM Management Committee.
He also served as Chef de Mission for the Malaysian contingent to the 2nd Asian Indoor Games Macau 2007, and paved the way for the formation of Taekwondo Malaysia, serving two terms as Vice President from 2010 to 2012 and from 2012 to 2014.
In recognition of his distinguished service to hockey and taekwondo, as well as his outstanding contributions to the Olympic Movement in Malaysia, Dato’ Roy was inducted into the OCM Hall of Fame in 2015.
