Guangzhou, China, July 6, 2026: The Working Meeting for the 2026 OCA-UWW Asian Youth Training Camp and Coaches Course was held at Guangzhou Sports Polytechnic on Monday, July 6.
Attendees at the meeting included Mr. Wissam Trkmani, OCA Director of NOC Relations and Development Programmes; Mr. Jeans Zhou Jian, OCA Director of Media and Broadcasting; Ms. Huang Liyi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangzhou Sports Polytechnic; Mr. Luo Yufei, Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Sports Competition Centre; and staff members from various departments.
The meeting focused on the progress in key areas of preparation such as training venues, accommodation, medical services, networking, transportation and the opening and closing ceremonies.
Mr. Trkmani stated that the orderly and steady progress of the event would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of every staff member. He expressed confidence that the wrestling training camp would be a great success.
Mr. Zhou highly praised the preparatory work carried out by all departments of Guangzhou Sports Polytechnic, especially the airport reception services, which had greatly facilitated the arrival of the athletes.
Ms. Huang noted that, as the largest and most important youth sports training base in the region, Guangzhou Sports Polytechnic is home to 15 Guangzhou city sports teams, with wrestling among them. The institute has produced 10 Olympic champions and a large number of outstanding athletes for the Chinese national team.
She also expressed the hope that this exchange event would further promote youth wrestling exchanges and cooperation among Asian countries, thereby advancing the popularisation and development of wrestling across the continent.
In the afternoon, Mr. Trkmani and his delegation visited the campus to inspect the preparations at the dining hall, gymnasium and other sports facilities.
Guangzhou Sports Polytechnic, known as the "Cradle of Champions," has produced 10 Olympic champions, including Liu Shiwen, Fan Zhendong and Quan Hongchan, as well as 40 world champions such as Xie Xingfang and Liu Tingting.
