Astana, Kazakhstan, July 3, 2026: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Gennadiy Golovkin, held an official meeting with World Gymnastics President Morinari Watanabe and Asian Gymnastics Union President Abdulrahman Al-Shathri in Astana.
The parties discussed the participation of Kazakhstan in upcoming international competitions, as well as opportunities for cooperation in joint projects.
Special attention was paid to the preparation and performance of Kazakhstan athletes in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
They also discussed the current situation and development prospects of world gymnastics.
In addition, the parties highly evaluated the level of development of Kazakhstan's sports infrastructure and its potential for large international competitions. They expressed interest in considering the possibility of organizing one of the international tournaments in the country in the future.
Specifically, according to the AGU President, Kazakhstan has a good opportunity to host the Asian Championship.
World Gymnastics President Watanabe and AGU President Al-Shathri congratulated Kazakhstan on winning the right to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games in Astana. They noted that this decision clearly reflected the high confidence and trust in Kazakhstan and the country's rich experience in organizing large multi-sports events.
