Sydney, Australia, July 1, 2026: China women's national basketball team captain Yang Shuyu has joined the Sydney Flames for the 2026-27 Women's National Basketball League season, pending league approval, the club announced on Tuesday, Xinhua News reports.

Yang is averaging 19.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game for the Melbourne Tigers in NBL1 South.

"As the captain of the Chinese national team and one of Asia's premier basketball talents, Yang has elite international experience and a reputation as one of the game's most influential leaders," the Flames said in a statement.

Yang follows national team teammates Han Xu and Wang Siyu in competing in the WNBL. Han played with the Perth Lynx last season, while Wang joined the Southside Melbourne Flyers in May.

Yang was among 19 players selected for an April training camp ahead of the Women's World Cup in Berlin from September 4 to 13 and the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 and October 4.
