Lausanne, Switzerland, June 29, 2026: The qualification system for the cricket competition at the LA28 Olympic Games has now been published and updates have been made to the surfing qualification system, following endorsement by the IOC Executive Board.
Six teams per gender will participate in the men’s and women’s T20 format cricket competitions at LA28.
Cricket will make its long-awaited return to the Olympic Games at LA28, 128 years after its only previous appearance at Paris 1900.
The competition will feature men's and women's T20 tournaments, each contested by six teams of up to 15 players, with 90 quota places allocated per gender. A total of 28 matches will be played across the two competitions.
Four teams will earn a place by rankings, plus the host nation and the winner of a final global qualification tournament for eight teams.
The only remaining qualification systems to be confirmed for the LA28 Olympic Games – athletics and football – are expected to be published within the coming days.
