ANOC Ex-Co plans for elective General Assembly in Hong Kong

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 27, 2026: H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and Senior Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), attended the 94th ANOC Executive Council meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland on Friday, June 26.

The ANOC Ex-Co convened following the conclusion of the 146th IOC Session to review the organisation’s recent activities, plan for the year ahead and discuss the IOC’s Fit for the Future and its implications for NOCs.

The ANOC Secretary General, Gunilla Lindberg, provided updates on ANOC’s activities over the past two months, with progress assessed against the organisation’s strategic plan.

A progress report on preparations for the elective ANOC General Assembly in Hong Kong, China on December 7-10 was delivered. The General Assembly will see the election of the President and Senior Vice President and NOCs will soon be invited to submit nominations for candidates.

In order to ensure the event delivers maximum value for NOCs, the Executive Council agreed to establish a dedicated Working Group to develop the agenda and programme for the General Assembly. The Working Group will be specifically tasked with ensuring the event is as beneficial and interactive for NOCs as possible, reflecting ANOC’s ongoing commitment to meaningful engagement with its membership.

The Executive Council also held discussions on the IOC’s Fit for the Future strategic direction, presented at the IOC Session earlier in the week. Members focused on the areas that will have the greatest impact on NOCs, including the Olympian Grant and the role NOCs will play in its implementation and administration, and the governance platform being developed by the IOC in partnership with Deloitte to strengthen and support NOC governance structures.
