Singapore, May 21, 2020: Singapore’s Olympic swimming champion Joseph Schooling has spoken of the importance of the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship on his road to golden glory.
As the scholarship programme celebrates its 10th anniversary, the Rio 2016 100m butterfly champion said on Facebook: “Back in 2012, when I embarked on my first Olympic journey, I was one of the grateful recipients of the SOF-Peter Lim Foundation scholarship.
“Since then, many have benefited from Mr. Peter Lim’s generosity and I will never forget the happiness and appreciation I witnessed on the faces of these young athletes. The scholarship takes them one step closer to realising their dreams and turning it into reality, just like I did.”
On May 19, the Singapore National Olympic Council looked back on how the award allowed recipients to chase and fulfil their sporting dreams over the past decade, while introducing some of this year’s awardees.
“This year, 289 youth athletes will receive the SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship,” Singapore NOC reported.
“In these unusual times of the Covid-19 outbreak, the ceremony will not be held to comply with the Government's social distancing measures. Recipients will instead receive the scholarship awards via direct deposits in their bank accounts. Our heartiest congratulations to all recipients!”
