Uzbekistan celebrates family-oriented Olympic Day 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, June 17, 2026: Uzbekistan celebrated Olympic Day 2026 at the state-of-the-art Olympic Village in Tashkent in the presence of more than 1,000 guests on Sunday, June 14.

 

Among the dignitaries present were Odil Abdurakhmanov, representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on sports, Adham Ikramov, the Minister of Sport, and Otabek Umarov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

 

Addressing the gathering, Odil Abdurakhmanov said: “I sincerely congratulate all of you on the International Olympic Day, which is an ambassador of peace, a symbol of friendship and solidarity. 

 

“The fact that the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan is led by our President Shavkat Mirziyoyev shows that the development of sport is one of the most important directions of state policy. The development of the Olympic movement remains one of the priority tasks of the country,” he added.

 

Minister of Sport Ikramov added: “For the first time we are celebrating this holiday among such magnificent buildings at the Olympic Village. We would like to express our gratitude to our guests who came today with their children and grandchildren. We also wish good luck to the Uzbekistan national football team now at the World Cup.”

 

Otabek Umarov revealed that Olympic Day had been organised in a special format – in the form of a family holiday. “The main goal is to bring joy to our families, to introduce our children to sport. Make sport the essence of your life. I wish all participants a Happy Olympic Day.”

 

Demonstrations of 13 sports were staged for the guests. A concert programme with pop stars was also staged. All participants received a souvenir from the organisers.
