Dhaka, Bangladesh, June 16, 2026: The President of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, has written to the OCA President, His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, to offer condolences on the passing of Raja Randhir Singh.
In a letter dated June 15, 2026, General Waker-Uz-Zaman writes: “It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that the Bangladesh Olympic Association learned of the passing of IOC Honorary Member and former President of the Olympic Council of Asia, Raja Randhir Singh, at the age of 79.
“On behalf of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, the Olympic family of Bangladesh, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the late Raja Randhir Singh.
“Raja Randhir Singh was one of the most respected and influential figures in Asian sport, whose lifelong dedication to the Olympic Movement left an indelible mark on India, Asia and the global sporting community.
“As a distinguished Olympian, accomplished shooter, visionary sports administrator and dynamic leader, he served the Olympic Movement with exceptional commitment, wisdom and integrity for several decades.
“His remarkable journey as a five-time Olympian and his historic achievements in shooting inspired generations of athletes. Equally, his visionary leadership as Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Asia and later as its President played a transformative role in strengthening Asian sport and promoting unity, excellence and cooperation among National Olympic Committees across the continent.
“Raja Randhir Singh's warmth, friendship, humility and unwavering commitment to the values of Olympism earned him immense admiration and respect from colleagues and friends throughout the world.
“His passing is an irreparable loss to the Olympic Movement and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of sports leaders and athletes.
“During this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with the Olympic Council of Asia and offer our deepest sympathies to the deceased family. We pray to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to his departed soul and provide strength and comfort to his family and the entire Olympic community.
“Please accept our deepest condolences.”
