Japan Mint produces special Asian Games silver coin

Osaka, Japan, June 10, 2026: The commemorative currency ceremony for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games has been held.

On Monday, June 8, the 20th Asian Games 1,000-yen silver coin was unveiled at the Japan Mint head office in Osaka City. Japan Mint is an incorporated administrative agency of the Japanese Government.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries from government and from the sports world, led by the Governor of Aichi Prefecture and President of organising committee AINAGOC, Mr. Hideaki Ohmura, and Mr. Yasuo Hirai from Japan Mint.

The production of the special silver coin shows the support for the Asian Games, which will run from September 19 to October 4, not just in Nagoya City and Aichi Prefecture but in other co-host cities such as Osaka and around Japan.

“Please join us in feeling the anticipation building for the 2026 Asian Games,” AINAGOC said.

The coin features prominently the Asian Games mascot, Honohon, in striking red and white colours against the silver background.
