Munich, Germany, May 27, 2026: The President of the International Shooting Sport Federation, Luciano Rossi, has paid tribute to five-time Olympic shooter Raja Randhir Singh.
“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Raja Randhir Singh, one of the most distinguished personalities in the history of Indian and Asian sport, a legendary former shooter, Olympian and highly respected sports administrator,” the ISSF President said.
“On my personal behalf, and that of the ISSF and the entire global shooting sport family, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and to all those who had the honour of knowing and working with him throughout his remarkable life of service to sport.
“Mr. Raja Randhir Singh leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as both an athlete and administrator. A five-time Olympian in trap shooting, he represented India with pride and distinction over several decades and became the first Indian shooter to win an Asian Games gold medal, achieving this historic milestone at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok. His accomplishments as an athlete earned him the Arjuna Award and established him as one of the pioneers of shooting sport in India and Asia.
“Beyond his sporting achievements, Mr. Raja Randhir Singh devoted his life to the advancement of the Olympic Movement and the development of sport governance at the highest international level.
“Through his leadership roles within the Indian Olympic Association, the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Olympic Committee, he played a defining role in strengthening sport across the continent and promoting the universal values of excellence, friendship, solidarity and fair play.
“Throughout his distinguished career, he was admired for his integrity and to bringing athletes, nations and peoples together through sport. His tireless efforts contributed significantly to the growth and recognition of shooting sport internationally.
“The passing of Mr. Raja Randhir Singh represents a great loss for the international sporting community.
“His contribution to shooting sport and to the Olympic ideals will remain an enduring source of inspiration.
“In this moment of sorrow, the ISSF stands in solidarity with his loved ones and with the entire sporting fraternity in mourning a truly exceptional figure whose life was dedicated to sport and service. May he rest in peace.”
