Astana, Kazakhstan, May 27, 2026: A delegation from World Boxing led by President Gennadiy Golovkin held a meeting with the Mayor of Astana, Zhenis Kasymbek, to review logistical preparations for the 2027 World Boxing Championships in Astana.
Golovkin, who is also the President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, led the official delegation which also included World Boxing Secretary General Tom Dielen and Kazakhstan Boxing Federation President Shakhmurat Mutalip.
Discussions focused on key areas for the tournament, including the city’s infrastructure, transport and logistics systems, as well as accommodation plans for the athletes, officials and guests.
The two parties also reviewed coordination between city services and the local organising committee to support the smooth delivery of the Championships which will be a key qualifying event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The Astana showpiece will be one of four opportunities to book Olympic berths through a series of global and continental tournaments. A total of 44 Olympic quota spots will be up for grabs in Astana.
