Bahrain’s record gold medal haul at GCC Games attributed to Royal support

Manama, Bahrain, May 27, 2026: The continued support for sport from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa was attributed as the reason for the Kingdom’s success at the 4th GCC Games in Doha by the President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

 

The BOC President, who is also the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of the General Sports Authority, sent a cable of congratulations to the King of Bahrain, reported The Daily Tribune.

 

In his cable, HH Shaikh Khalid congratulated King Hamad on Bahrain’s achievement of 63 medals, comprised of 25 gold, 22 silver and 16 bronze, marking the Kingdom’s highest gold medal tally in the history of participation at the GCC Games.

 

Shaikh Khalid said the continued royal support for Bahrain’s sports sector had enabled Bahraini athletes to achieve distinguished results at Gulf, regional and international competitions.

 

He noted that the result reflected the progress of Bahraini sport under His Majesty’s vision to empower youth and athletes, as well as acknowledging the efforts of the athletes, coaches and technical teams, the Bahrain Olympic Committee and sports federations.

 

In response, His Majesty the King sent a cable of thanks to the BOC President commending Bahrain’s athletes for their performance and determination throughout the Games held from May 11-22.
