Tashkent, Uzbekistan, May 21, 2026: Uzbekistan’s sporting hierarchy paid a visit to Samarkand to see first-hand the conditions for mass sports in the historic Silk Road city of the country.

Sports Minister Adkham Ikramov and the First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Otabek Umarov, led the working group on the tour of Samarkand. Also in attendance was NOC Secretary General Oybek Kasimov.

During the visit, the delegation became acquainted with the activities of the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service, as well as the specialised sports school for track and field, and team sports. They inspected facilities and conditions available for young people to regularly engage in sports at these venues.

The tour party also witnessed the "Governor’s Olympics", "New Uzbekistan Student Olympics", and the "Five Initiative Paralympics", held in the city.

The trip was rounded off with an interactive dialogue session with the youth to get a better idea about their interests and future plans.
