Nagoya, Japan, May 21, 2026: The Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Mr. Husain Al Musallam, believes Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will add to Japan’s proud history of Asian Games hosting.
In a message to the second World Press Briefing for the 20th Asian Games at Nagoya Port Messe on Thursday, May 21, Mr. Al Musallam noted that Aichi-Nagoya 2026 would be the third time for Japan to host the Asian Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.
“We are sure Aichi-Nagoya will add another rich chapter to the Asian Games success story,” Mr. Al Musallam said.
“The Press will play a big part in the success of the Asian Games with your reports and photos, transporting the action around the world and showing the true spirit of top-class competition.”
Mr. Al Musallam, who is also President of World Aquatics, said the second WPB gave all participants the opportunity to learn more about the 20th Asian Games and how to work together for the success of the Games, which will run from September 19 to October 4.
“There are only four months to go to the start of the 20th Asian Games on September 19, so we want everyone to feel comfortable and confident in your working environment,” he added.
“The 20th Asian Games will produce new stars of Asian sport from around the continent – and we can follow their paths all the way to the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.”
AINAGOC Secretary General Satoshi Murate welcomed everyone to the second WPB and said the meetings and venue tour would help them plan their coverage.
The OCA’s Director of Media and Broadcast, Mr. Jeans Zhou Jian, said all members of the press would be able to collect a public transportation card on arrival in Japan due to the venues being spread out in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture and other host cities such as Tokyo and Osaka.
