Asian Games wrestling champ comes out of retirement

Tehran, Iran, May 19, 2020: Iranian lightweight freestyle wrestler Masoud Esmaeilpour has come out of retirement.

The 2014 Incheon Asian Games gold medallist was forced to retire from the sport due to a sports injury two years ago.

The 31-year-old Esmaeilpour won the Asian Championship three times, in 2010 New Delhi (60kg division), 2014 Astana (61kg) and 2015 Doha (65kg). 

He also claimed a silver medal at the 2014 World Championships in Tashkent and a bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest.

Esmaeilpour’s only Olympic appearance was at the 2012 London Games where he reached the quarterfinals in the men’s freestyle 60kg event. 

He last competed on the international stage in February 2018.
