Nagoya, Japan, May 18, 2026: The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) celebrated “Shohei Ohtani Day” on Sunday, May 17.

The City of Los Angeles declared May 17 as “Shohei Ohtani Day” in 2024 in honour of their Japanese superstar – a resolution that will be in place for the duration of his Dodgers career.

Now 31, Ohtani is the pride of Japan, and replica Los Angeles Dodgers shirts can be seen around Nagoya and beyond. What makes Ohtani special is that he bats left-handed and throws right – and he has torn up the league with his “two-way” skills.

“It’s Shohei Ohtani Day,” AINAGOC posted.

“Will we get to see another global baseball star being born at this year’s Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026? Only time will tell so don’t miss it.”

Baseball will be one of the most popular sports at the 20th Asian Games, which run from September 19 to October 4, as it is the national pastime of Japan.

It will be played at two venues - Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Baseball Stadium and Toyohashi Municipal Baseball Stadium.
