Iranian super heavyweight lifter Alireza Yousefi sets new world record

Tehran, Iran, May 18, 2026: Iranian super heavyweight weightlifter Alireza Yousefi brought the curtain down on the Asian Weightlifting Championships on Sunday, May 17 by establishing a world record and winning the gold medal in the top category.

 

Yousefi successfully lifted 261 kilograms on his third attempt in Gandhinagar, India, becoming the first world record holder in the clean and jerk for the newly established +110kg weight class.

 

After securing a bronze medal in the snatch with lifts of 177kg and 184kg, Yousefi went on to dominate the clean and jerk, to win gold in that event and a silver medal overall.

 

The youth Olympic champion successfully lifted 261 kg on his third and final attempt to cement his place in the record books.
