Aivaz Omorkanov, 30, elected President of Kyrgyzstan NOC

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, May 12, 2026: Aivaz Omorkanov has been elected as the new President of the National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan. 

 

Three candidates were nominated for the position but, on the day of the elections, only Omorkanov remained on the list. 

 

The other two nominations were the President of the Volleyball Federation, Elmurza Satybaldiev, and the First Vice-President of the Kyrgyz Football Union, Nurdin Bukuev.

 

The 30-year-old Omorkanov received 48 of the 49 votes at the elections that took place in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, on Monday, May 11.

 

Omorkanov is a member of the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and is also the vice president of the Ice Hockey Federation of Kyrgyzstan.

 

The previous president of the Kyrgyzstan NOC, Umbetaly Kydyraliev, who assumed the post after the Paris 2024 Olympics, stepped down from the top seat in March 2026.

 

In addition to sports administration, Omorkanov is also a professional triathlete. He is a national champion in triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon, and has won international Ironman competitions.

 

Omorkanov graduated from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, and from Kyrgyz National University with a degree in law.
