Iraqi weightlifter Ali Ammar begins build-up for Aichi-Nagoya with blessings of NOC President

Baghdad, Iraq, May 13, 2026: With the support of Iraqi NOC President Dr. Aqeel Muften, the country’s leading weightlifter Ali Ammar Yasser began his build-up for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games by entering a closed training camp at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of Baghdad on Tuesday, May 12.

 

Ali Ammar embarked on his journey for medal glory at the 20th Asian Games with the blessings of Dr. Aqeel Muften, who was on hand to wish him well as he began his preparations.

 

Dr. Muften and the Iraqi NOC, along with the Iraqi Weightlifting Federation, have continuously supported the weightlifter, who also represented Iraq at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

 

Ali Ammar is one of Iraq’s top medal hopes in Japan this September. Ali Ammar assured he will do his best to win accolades at the Asian Games, as well as try and qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
