Sri Lanka CDM thanks OCA for bringing Asia together through sport at Sanya

Colombo, Sri Lanka, May 12, 2026: The Chef de Mission of Sri Lanka at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China last month, Samith Thilina, has paid a special tribute to the OCA.

Writing on social media, Samith says: “Serving as the Chef de Mission of Team Sri Lanka has been one of the greatest honors and proudest moments of my life.

“Taking up this responsibility for the very first time came with many challenges, pressure and expectations — but, together, as one united team, we created something truly memorable for our nation.”

Sri Lanka finished 10th of 45 National Olympic Committees in the medal rankings with one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

“It is not just a result on paper. It is a reflection of sacrifice, discipline, teamwork and the fighting spirit carried by every Sri Lankan athlete and official who stood proudly under our flag in Sanya. Every medal, every performance, and every moment of effort carried the heartbeat of our nation,” he added.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka for placing their trust and confidence in me to lead this incredible delegation. My sincere thanks also go to Sri Lanka Life Saving for recommending and believing in my capabilities for this role. I am deeply thankful to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the continuous support extended to the team throughout this journey.

“I would also like to extend a special appreciation to the Olympic Council of Asia and the organizers in China for successfully hosting such a massive and meaningful event after a decade, especially during a crucial and challenging period in world politics.

“Bringing Asia together once again through sport was a powerful message of unity, friendship, and peace.”

And he closed his message thus: “Thank you, Sri Lanka, for your endless love, encouragement and blessings.”
