OCA acknowledges ‘support and dedication’ of CTOC on eve of Asian Games Fun Run

New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, May 8, 2026: The Olympic Council of Asia has thanked the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee for their collaboration in staging the “Asian Games for All” series.

Speaking at a press conference at the Hilton Hotel in New Taipei City on Friday, May 8, the OCA’s Director of Media and Broadcast, Mr. Jeans Zhou Jian, said the CTOC had given their full support and backing for the three-pronged promo campaign.

“I would really like to thank the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee for helping the OCA host the Asian Games Fun Run, the Art Contest and the Asian Youth Reporter Program,” he said.

“We truly appreciate the support and dedication in putting on the Asian Games Fun Run and we are sure it will be a great success.”

The CTOC’s Asian Games Fun Run will be the 16th in the series and will coincide with the Olympic Day Run. It will be held on Saturday, May 9, with the opening ceremony set for 6.50am. There will be around 800 runners taking part in a 10km run and 3km fun run by the Fuzhou Bridge over the Dahan River in the Banqiao District of New Taipei City.

Organisers will lay on shuttle buses from nearby train and bus stations to help the runners join in the festivities.

Earlier on Friday, the OCA conducted the Asian Games Youth Reporter Program, with nine students hearing a presentation on the OCA, the Asian Games and life as a member of the sports media covering a major event.

The nine students were chosen from an entry of over 100, and the winner of the “My Asian Games” essay competition will be invited to Japan to cover the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 as part of the OCA media team.

The Acting Director General of the Asian Games Organising Committee AINAGOC, Mr. Yasuhiro Nakamori, updated the press conference on preparations for the 20th Asian Games, which will run from September 19 to October 4. With the recent additions of padel and teqball, there will now be 43 sports, 70 disciplines and 468 events.

“It will be a huge Asian Games, and we are looking forward to welcoming you all,” he said, adding that organisers were expecting a total of 15,000 athletes and officials from the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees.

He said the “Imagine One Asia” slogan was based around five main themes: Putting athletes at the centre of the Games; using existing facilities; making full use of state-of-the-art technology; tradition and hospitality that represents the characteristics of the local people; and taking pride in hosting the Asian Games and further contributing to the spread of sports culture.

The CTOC Vice President, Mr. Steven S.K. Chen, said it was a busy year for the CTOC, with the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina in February, the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China last month, the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya in September and October, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal and the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December.

“Most of the Games this year will be hosted by the OCA, and the CTOC enjoys strong collaboration with the OCA,” he said.
