Colombo, Sri Lanka, May 7, 2026: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Sri Lanka felicitated the island nation’s medal-winning athletes at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China on Monday, May 4.
Sri Lanka won seven medals at last month’s showpiece in Sanya. This included a historic gold medal – the country’s first-ever at an Asian Beach Games – clinched by wrestler Nipuni Wasana in the women’s 50kg competition.
The ceremony at the Ministry of Sports in Colombo was held under the auspices of Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Also in attendance was the President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Asanga Seneviratne, as well as Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakarathne.
Sri Lanka finished a creditable 10th out of 45 NOCs in the overall medal standings in Sanya.
