Manila, Philippines, May 2, 2026: Filipinos are rallying around the Philippine Olympic Committee and its President, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, after the flag handover ceremony at the closing ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China on April 30.

Cebu will host the 7th Asian Beach Games in 2028 – the first time for the POC to organise an OCA Games since the second Asian Games in Manila in 1954.

“History unfolded before our very eyes as we waved the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia, symbolizing that Philippines will be the next host of the Asian Beach Games,” Tolentino posted on social media.

“This is our first hosting since 1954 and it will ignite the continuous improvement that our athletes have made over the years, not only in Asia but also in the global stage. Our battle for glory continues. We are ready for Asia and the world,” Tolentino said.

His post quickly garnered almost 3,000 “likes” and over 230 comments, all of them showing their pride in the upcoming 7th Asian Beach Games.

“This is not just a sports event, this is a national moment that will boost tourism, inspire athletes and strengthen our identity as a competitive country,” said one.

“This milestone reflects how Philippine sports is slowly but surely climbing the Asian rankings, and hosting is another indicator of that growth,” said another.

“The return of hosting after 1954 shows how far we’ve come as a nation,” was another offering.

“Seeing that symbolic flag wave made me realize how far Philippine sports has come, from being overlooked before to now being trusted to host a major continental event again,” said another proud Pinoy.

Several comments acknowledged the important part played by the POC President in bringing the Asian Beach Games to the Philippines, such as: “Bambol’s role in securing and representing this opportunity shows how effective leadership can translate into real international recognition”; “Bambol’s presence in that moment symbolized not just leadership, but also the trust given to the Philippines by the international sports community”, and “Bambol Tolentino really showed strong leadership here, because moments like this don’t just happen—they are built through consistent effort, international coordination and vision.”

Of all the comments, perhaps this contribution captured the moment perfectly: “This is such a powerful moment for the Philippines, and seeing the OCA flag waved knowing that we are next just gives a different level of pride and excitement for what’s coming.”

No doubt about it, the Philippines are right behind the 7th Asian Beach Games Cebu 2028!
