Yemen NOC describes Sanya 2026 as ‘remarkable milestone’ for Asian Beach Games

Sanya, China, April 30, 2026: The Yemen Olympic Committee has described the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China as a “remarkable milestone” for the Olympic sports movement in Asia.

In a social media post, the YOC says the closing ceremony on Thursday, April 30 will mark the end of a memorable event.

“Today, the curtain falls on the 2026 Asian Beach Games and we can look forward to a fairytale closing ceremony in Sanya,” the post says.

“The closing ceremony will herald the end of one of the most prominent continental sporting events.

“For nine days, Sanya has experienced an exciting competitive atmosphere that saw wide participation from Asia, including Yemen, in a sports competition that embodied the spirit of challenge and the gathering of people through beach sports.

“The closing ceremony is expected to include spectacular artistic performances that blend modernity and Chinese heritage, along with a review of tournament highlights and the honoring of star athletes in various competitions, underlining China's great organizational success in hosting this continental event.”

 The closing ceremony will also witness the handover of the Asian Beach Games flag from Sanya to the Philippine Olympic Committee, as the 7th ABG will be held in Cebu in March 2028.

 “This edition is a remarkable milestone in the Asian Beach Games in which it reinforced the status of these sports and emphasized the ability of Asian cities to organise sporting events to a world standard,” the Yemen Olympic Committee post concluded.

The 6th ABG, which ran from April 22-30, attracted 1,635 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees and featured 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 gold medals.
