Sport climbing speed relays produce more world records at Sanya 2026

Sanya, China, April 30, 2026: The 6th Asian Beach Games celebrated more world records on the second and final day of sport climbing on Wednesday, April 29.

Following the world record (4.58 seconds) of China’s Zhao Yicheng in the men’s individual speed climbing event on Tuesday, both men's and women's speed relays produced world-leading times on Wednesday, reports Xinhua News.

In the men's relay, China's Zhao and Long Jianguo first dipped under the previous world record of 10.06 seconds in the quarterfinals, clocking 10.04 seconds. They then proceeded to shatter their own mark in the final, storming to the gold medal with a stunning time of 9.75 seconds.

The women's event also saw a world record fall, with Indonesia’s Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Kadek Adi Asih narrowly edging out China’s Zhou Yafei and Deng Lijuan in the semifinals. The Indonesians clocked 13.174 to win the race ahead of the Chinese couple on 13.178 seconds.

Both times were recognized as a new world record of 13.17 seconds. The previous world record was 13.28 seconds held by Deng and Zhou.

 The Indonesians went on to win gold, beating Korea in the final. China took the bronze medal.
