Ramallah, Palestine, April 29, 2026: The leadership of the Palestine delegation at the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China met and briefed former IOC President Thomas Bach of the ground situation back home.
Amar Tamizi, the head of the Palestine delegation in Sanya, and another senior official, Major General Refaat Kalab, met Bach last week, and briefed him on the reality and challenges facing Palestinian sports.
Thanking the IOC for its continuous support to uplift the sporting movement in Palestine, the Palestinian officials detailed the current circumstances, and the role the Palestine Olympic Committee is playing to ensure that promising local athletes participate in major international events.
It was noted that the POC will continue its role and mission to spread Olympic values and culture to the Palestinian community, in cooperation with international and local institutions.
The importance of the partnership between the POC and the IOC was also highlighted – an important factor to ensure the sustainability of the Palestinian sporting movement, and to underline the presence of Palestine in the international sports arena.
