Sanya Deputy Mayor praises sportsmanship of athletes at 6th ABG

Sanya, China, April 29, 2026: The Deputy Mayor of Sanya, Mr. Zhang Changfeng, praised the athletes for their Olympic spirit at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya.

Addressing the final Chefs de Mission meeting of the 6th ABG at the Athletes Village on Wednesday, April 29, the Deputy Mayor of the host city said the athletes had displayed “great sportsmanship, mutual understanding, friendship and unity” during the Games.

“The athletes have been a good example of mutual exchange,” he said.

“We have worked together to overcome challenges and produced a smooth Asian Beach Games. I think this Asian Beach Games can be the catalyst for sports exchange,” he added.

*Organising committee SABGOC reported:

*1,635 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees had taken part in the 6th ABG from April 22-30.

*44 of 62 events had been completed as of April 28

*17 events were scheduled for April 29

*One event was scheduled for April 30 – the day of the closing ceremony

*11 National Olympic Committees had won at least one gold medal

*27 NOCs had won at least one medal

*The 6th Asian Beach Games had produced a world record in men’s sport climbing – speed. China’s Zhao Yicheng (4.58 seconds)

*The stormy weather had resulted in competition schedule changes for water polo, beach wrestling and sport climbing.

*The closing ceremony will take place on April 30 at 8pm and will last 60 minutes. The weather will be between 24C and 30C and cloudy.
