Sanya, China, April 28, 2026: The Malaysian contingent celebrated a huge milestone on the sixth day of the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 on Tuesday, April 28, securing its first podium finish of the Games.
The national athletes demonstrated grit and sportsmanship as they concluded their campaigns in Sailing and 3x3 Basketball.
The shores of Haihong Square provided the backdrop for Malaysia’s breakthrough. In the Sailing Optimist Boys event, Muhammad Yaasin bin Syahrizan delivered a stellar performance across 10 races to claim the bronze medal, finishing behind Thai duo Rachata Sadtrakulwattana (gold) and Sorawit Naksuk (silver).
Over at the Sanya Sports Centre Gymnasium, the 3x3 Basketball competition reached the knockout stages.
The Malaysian women’s team saw their impressive run end in the quarterfinals, falling 15-7 to Singapore. The men’s team also exited in the quarterfinal round following a 22-15 defeat to China.
With the first medal now secured, the Malaysian contingent looks to carry this momentum into the final two days of competition in Sanya.
