Sailing, sport climbing yield rich rewards for China on day six of Sanya 2026

Sanya, China, April 28, 2026: China climbed further ahead of the field at the 6th Asian Beach Games on Tuesday thanks to outstanding performances in sailing and sport climbing.

 The host nation won five of the eight gold medals on offer in sailing at the Haihong Square Venue and claimed both sport climbing gold on offer on the first night of speed action at Tianya Haijiao Venue Cluster.

 China stands atop the medal rankings after six days of competition with 21 gold medals, 14 silver and eight bronze medals for 43 total medals.

 The 21 gold medals have come from dragon boat (5), sailing (5), open water swimming (3), aquathlon (3), beach athletics (2), sport climbing (2) and water polo (1).

 Thailand continued to reap golden rewards with two more in sailing to add to the teqball clean sweep of all three titles the previous evening.

 The Thais are second in the table with nine gold, eight silver and five bronze medals for 22 total medals.

 The Philippines remain in third place with three gold, three silver and two bronze medals, adding one silver medal in sailing on Tuesday.

 Vietnam, United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Iran occupy places 4, 5 and 6 with two gold medals apiece, while five more National Olympic Committees have won one gold.

 Singapore joined the golden group on Tuesday in sailing as Ian Goh won the boys’ International Laser Class Association (ILCA)4. Singapore also added silver and bronze in sailing for their first medals of the Games.

 A total of 27 NOCs have won at least one medal with two days of competition remaining before the closing ceremony on April 30.

 There are 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events at the 6th Asian Beach Games, which run from April 22-30.
