Sanya, China, April 27, 2026: China increased their gold medal haul to 14 at the 6th Asian Beach Games on Monday – but Thailand’s teqball sweep moved them on to seven gold medals in second place.
China added just one gold medal on the day – a third gold from three events in open water swimming – to move on to 14 gold for the Games, along with 11 silver and five bronze for 30 total medals.
The Thais are second with seven gold (three each from teqball and beach athletics and one from dragon boat), along with five silver and three bronze for 15 in total.
The Philippines, who will host the 7th Asian Beach Games in Cebu in March 2028, are third with three gold (two in jiu jitsu and one in beach athletics), two silver and two bronze for seven in total.
Vietnam are fourth on 2-3-4 (9), the United Arab Emirates fifth on 2-2-2 (6) and the Islamic Republic of Iran sixth on 2-0-0 (2).
A total of 10 National Olympic Committees have won gold, while 24 NOCs have won at least one medal, thanks in some part to the introduction of teqball.
India joined the golden haul with victory in the women’s kabaddi final on Monday, while Iran defeated India in the men's kabaddi final for their second gold of the Games.
China’s 14 gold medals have come in dragon boat (5), open water swimming and aquathlon (both 3), beach athletics (2) and water polo (1).
There are 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events before the 6th Asian Beach Games close on Thursday, April 30.
