Sanya, China, April 27, 2026: Vietnam concluded its open water swimming campaign at the 6th Asian Beach Games on Monday, April 27 with a total of two silver and two bronze medals, delivering a performance beyond expectations.
The standout result came in the mixed 4 x 1,500m relay, where Nguyễn Huy Hoàng, Võ Thị Mỹ Tiên, Mai Trần Tuấn Anh and Nguyễn Khả Nhi combined for a time of 1 hour, six minutes and 32.4 seconds to secure silver.
Vietnam finished behind China (1:05:26.8) but held off Korea (1:08:15), showing strong coordination and endurance across all four legs. Korea took the bronze.
Individually, Nguyễn Huy Hoàng continued to affirm his status as Vietnam’s leading distance swimmer, touching second in the men’s 5km in 53:53.2 - just seven seconds behind China’s gold medalist Zhang Ziyang (53:46).
In the same race, Mai Trần Tuấn Anh clocked 53:56.3 to take bronze, underlining Vietnam’s depth in long-distance events.
In the women’s 5km on April 25, Võ Thị Mỹ Tiên added another bronze with a time of 1:01:57, finishing behind China’s Li Xinxuan (1:01:33) and Chen Yijing (1:01:43.2) in a tightly contested race.
Across the three events, Vietnam consistently placed athletes on the podium, with narrow time margins - often within seconds - highlighting both competitiveness and areas for further improvement.
While no gold medals were secured, the results point to steady progress, particularly in relay coordination and endurance-based events. The performance also builds on momentum from the 2025 SEA Games, where Vietnam won gold in the same relay discipline.
A three-week training camp in China prior to the Games was seen as a key factor in strengthening the team’s physical base and race readiness.
World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam presented the relay medals and had souvenir photos taken with the Vietnamese team.
