Pakistan rewards taekwondo medallists from South Asian Games

Lahore, Pakistan, May 14, 2020: Pakistan's taekwondo medallists from last year's South Asian Games in Nepal have been rewarded financially for their achievements, reports Inside the Games.

Gold medallists were given PKR 1,000,000 (USD 6,200), runners-up received PKR 500,000 (USD 3,100) and bronze medallists were given PKR 250,000 (USD 1,550), reports The News.

Pakistan won 17 taekwondo medals at the South Asian Games last December - three gold, six silver and eight bronze.

Haroon Khan, Rab Nawaz and Shahzeb won the gold medals in the men's 58kg, 80kg and 54kg categories, respectively.

In total, 18 athletes were responsible for Pakistan's medal haul as the country won some of its taekwondo medals in pair and team events.

The Pakistan Sports Board gave the money to the medallists, with athletes from other sports also in line to be rewarded financially for winning medals.

Lahore will host the next edition of the South Asian Games in 2022.
