Colombo, Sri Lanka, April 26, 2026: Asanga Seneviratne was elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka following a majority vote at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, April 25.

Seneviratne, who is President of the Sri Lanka Baseball Softball Association, secured 16 of the 29 votes to win the NOC Presidency for the term 2026-2030.

A dashing fly-half who represented Sri Lanka in rugby, Seneviratne will take over from Suresh Subramaniam who served from 2018.

In his farewell address at the AGM held at Olympic House in Colombo, Subramaniam said his presidency had faced “many obstacles and challenges” but the NOC had come through strongly.

COVID was the first major challenge when the NOC was virtually closed for 18 months during 2019-2020. This was followed by an economic meltdown in the island nation, government change and governance issues.

“We did our best under very difficult circumstances, always keeping our athletes in mind. We are thankful to the IOC and the OCA for helping us financially during this period and thankfully we are in a far better position now. I wish my successor and the new board all the very best,” Subramaniam said.

OCA Executive Board Member Niloo Jayatilake was re-elected as Vice President of the NOC while Rifdy Fahmy was again elected to the position of Secretary General.
