Sri Lanka NOC Presidency race set to be three-way contest

Colombo, Sri Lanka, April 23, 2026: It will be a three-way contest for the position of President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka on Saturday, April 25.

The Sri Lanka NOC announced last Sunday, April 20, that five eligible candidates had sent in their nominations for the top post, but national newspaper Daily News reported on Thursday, April 23, that two of them had pulled out – Rohan Perera and Deva Henry.

The race for the Presidency for the term 2026-2030 will now be contested by Jaswar Umar, President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka; Shirantha Peiris, National Shooting Sport Federation Vice President; and Asanga Seneviratne, Sri Lanka Baseball Association President.

There will also be elections for the posts of Secretary General, Vice Presidents, Assistant Secretary Generals, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Committee members.

The elections will be held during the General Assembly at Olympic House, Colombo.

A total of 29 national federations plus two members on the NOC’s Athletes’ Committee will vote.

Incumbent President Suresh Subramaniam will step down having served two terms since 2018.
