Tashkent, Uzbekistan, May 13, 2020: Elite athletes from Uzbekistan were among more than 800 competitors who took part in the first ever online Laser Home Run competition organised by the International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) last week.

The Uzbek team was led by Bakhromjon Gaziyev, chairman of the Uzbekistan Modern Pentathlon Federation. Athletes from 52 countries participated.

Both male and female athletes across six age groups had to perform a fitness test before shooting with laser weapons during the May 4-7 event held to unite the global UIPM sports community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laser Run is modern pentathlon world governing body’s fastest-growing development sport that enables participants of all ages to add focus to their home training regimes, keep their skills sharp and enjoy the thrill of online competition.

The format of the competition was simple – in each round, competitors have to complete a series of exercises before hitting five targets with a laser pistol in the fastest possible time.

“At a time when all sports activity has been suspended, social media is playing an important role in enabling people to meet online, compare their home training activities with each other and have fun,” said UIPM executive board member and two-time Olympic medallist Andrejus Zadneprovskis.
