Islamic Solidarity Games Konya 2021 postponed

Ramallah, Palestine, May 12, 2020: The Palestine Olympic Committee reports that the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games due to be held in Turkey next year have been postponed.

The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation, which organises the Islamic Solidarity Games and is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has called them off due to the fact that the Tokyo Olympics will now be staged in the summer of 2021.

The ISSF decision came after a remote meeting of the board of directors, headed by His Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.

This meeting was supervised by the coordination commission and also in communication with the organising committee of Konya 2021. The relevant parties will look to find a new date, depending on the international calendar.

Meanwhile, the ISSF opened the process for countries interested in hosting the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games due to be held in 2025.

The first ISG was held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 2005, but the second event in Iran was cancelled. The third ISG was in Palembang, Indonesia in 2013 and the fourth in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2017.
