Sanya, China, April 8, 2026: The exhausting run-swim-run elements of aquathlon will be on display at the Sanya Bay Photography Base during the 6thAsian Beach Games in Sanya from April 22-30.
There will be three gold medals on offer in aquathlon – men’s and women’s individual and mixed team relay.
The individual races will be held on Thursday, April 23 – the morning after the opening ceremony – and will be the first gold medals presented at the 6th ABG. The men will start first at 8am and the women at 9.30am. The victory ceremonies are timed for 10.30am (men) and 10.45am (women).
The individual races will be contested over 6km, with a 2.5km run, 1km swim and 2.5km run to the finish line.
After a rest day on April 24, the mixed team relay will be held on Saturday, April 25. Teams will comprise four athletes (two male and two female) with each competitor completing a 1.25km run, 0.5km swim and 1.25km run to the finish – a total of 3km for each athlete in the relay.
The aquathlon test event was held on March 8 and featured all three events that will be contested at the ABG. Over 50 athletes from eight teams nationwide participated.
