Iraq NOC Secretary General pushes for sport in schools

Baghdad, Iraq, April 8, 2026: The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Iraq, Haitham Abdul Hamid, is pushing to promote sport in schools, which were a reservoir of talent throughout the country. 

 

 

 

Abdul Hamid made these remarks during a visit to the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, April 7, where he met Dr. Muhammad Zaie Al-Azawi, a representative of the Minister of Education.

 

“School sports play a key role in developing the level of athletic performance, as well as being a base for discovering young energies through organised school tournaments,” Abdul Hamid stated.

 

The NOC Secretary General presented a sports curriculum and a programme to activate school sports during his visit.

 

On his part, Dr. Muhammad Al-Azawi expressed his thanks and appreciation for the interest shown by the Iraqi NOC in school sports, stressing the importance of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the NOC to achieve the goals of sports development in Iraq.
