OCA’s TUE webinar ‘very informative’, says anti-doping expert

Kuwait City, Kuwait, April 6, 2026: The Olympic Council of Asia hosted a comprehensive webinar on Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) on Monday, April 6.

The webinar was attended by medical staff of National Olympic Committees, TUE specialists within National Anti-Doping Organisations and other relevant parties, and was held at the start of a busy year for the OCA with three international multi-sport events: Asian Beach Games, Asian Games and Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games.

The 90-minute webinar provided an overview of the TUE process and highlighted key updates to the 2027 International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE).

The session was hosted by Dr. Teoh Chin Sim of Singapore, a member of the WADA Expert Advisory Group on TUE.

Her one-hour presentation included the World Anti-Doping Code and Standards, TUE background, Retroactive TUE, the application process for a TUE, TUE resources, TUE physician guidelines and two case studies.

Other topics included finding the balance between flexibility and robust rule and advice for team doctors.

Nadiah Al Shamali introduced the webinar on behalf of the OCA and said it would provide “key insights” into TUE, while anti-doping expert Gobi Nair conducted a 30-minute Q&A session after the presentation.

“I would like to thank Dr. Teoh Chin Sim for the very informative presentation which was full of practical examples,” said Gobi, adding that he hoped it would prevent athletes and teams from "falling into the same trap".
