Tashkent, Uzbekistan, April 6, 2026: Otabek Umarov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan and OCA Vice President, has praised organisers of the 8th Tashkent International Marathon for successfully staging the event at a high level.
“This year’s competition was held at a higher level than ever before. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Sport, the country’s Athletic Federation and sponsor for their active participation in this,” Umarov noted.
Over 15,000 participants from more than 50 countries took part in the 8thTashkent International Marathon, and other races, on Sunday, April 5.
Umarov also thanked the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by the Chairman of the Triathlon Federation, Viktor Mahmudov, for their high-level organisational assistance, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defence, the National Guard Command, the Ministry of Emergency situations and other state and government agencies for their support.
“I thank them for their assistance in ensuring the safe conduct of the competitions, as well as to the team of judges and volunteers who selflessly served during the competition, and to the media who provided wide coverage,” Umarov said.
“Thanks to this solidarity and high responsibility, the marathon became a true sports festival, and left an unforgettable impression on participants and guests,” Umarov added.
Uzbekistan’s Shohruh Davlatov won the men’s marathon which finished at the Humo Arena complex in Tashkent.
There was also a half-marathon, 10km and 5km races. A Nordic walking competition was also held.
