Baghdad, Iraq, April 2, 2026: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq celebrated the qualification of the national team for the FIFA World Cup at the Iraq Mall on Wednesday, April 1.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of NOC President Dr. Aqeel Muften, who shared the joy with the fans amidst a festive atmosphere.

Iraq qualified for the World Cup by beating Bolivia 2-1 in Mexico in their inter-confederation play-off on Tuesday, March 31, sealing a return to the finals after a 40-year absence.

In a congratulatory message, Dr. Muften stated the qualification represented a point of pride for all Iraqis, and a message of hope and unity that reflects the spirit of determination and challenge that characterises the people of Iraq.

Iraq became the 48th, and last, country to qualify for the World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada this summer.

Iraq secured their berth in Group I alongside France, Norway and Senegal.
