Nagoya, Japan, April 1, 2026: The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) has added a schools’ torch relay into the overall plans for the main torch relay.
The main torch relay will be held in August and cover 40 municipalities in Aichi prefecture, building up the excitement for the 20th Asian Games to take place from September 19 to October 4.
At a recent board meeting of AINAGOC, plans for a schools’ torch relay were unveiled as part of the initiatives for the coming months.
“Specific plans for the torch relay and related events were shared,” AINAGOC said.
“For the torch relay at schools, students from junior high schools, high schools and special needs schools across the prefecture are expected to take part in relays held on school grounds, such as playgrounds, from Monday, September 7 to Tuesday, September 15.
“In addition, an event to send off the torch to the Opening Ceremony is being considered at Hisaya Odori Park just before the ceremony.
“Furthermore, through courtesy visits and torch exhibitions, we will widely promote the excitement of the Games to local communities and help build momentum. Preparations for the Games are steadily progressing,” AINAGOC added.
