Anti-doping movement grieving over Dr. Abdul Halim Mokhtar

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, March 30, 2026: The anti-doping and medical community in Malaysia and South East Asia are mourning the passing of leading sports physician Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Mokhtar.

 

The Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS), the national anti-doping agency in the country, posted the news on social media.

 

Dr. Halim was a practitioner, teacher and researcher in the Sports Medicine and Sports Science field and will be greatly missed in these roles at the University of Malaya and beyond.

 

He was a visiting consultant in Sports Medicine at the National Sports Institute of Malaysia and a member of the Medical Committee of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). He also served on the panel of medical and doping officers of the Asian Football Confederation and was a member of the Badminton World Federation Medical Commission. 

 

The ASEAN University Sports Council commented: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Mokhtar on 29 March 2026. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
